Chicken Pox

On Saturday morning Teagan had two little red marks on her neck. We didn't think much of it. Sunday morning I went to comb her hair and she told me to be careful of her neck. She had several red hives like marks all up the side of her neck and on her face. We weren't sure what was going on so we took her out to emergent care in Airdrie. After seeing the triage nurse we were asked to sit in the waiting area as far from other people as possible. We waiting over two hours and then got a room. It only took about five minutes for the nurse to get the doctor and confirm that Teagan had the chicken pox. Because she had been vaccinated they told us she would not get as sick. Which was true. Teagan was itchy, had a headache and a sore tummy for a day or two but then she was much better. The most spots she had was 36. After the third day they started to disappear.
We passed the time by making cookies, cleaning the house, playing in the snow, playing games, going on Skype with grandparents, colouring pictures, playing computer games, watching T.V. and movies.
Teagan thought it was great having the chicken pox for the first couple of days. She got to miss school and she loved having oatmeal baths. On Tuesday her friends Alyssa and Emerson came over for a chicken pox party. Teagan was so excited as she had not been out of the house for a few days and was getting pretty lonesome for friends. By Wednesday she was not itchy anymore and was feeling great. Then she started missing school and her friends and having the chicken pox wasn't so great after all. She missed Valentine's Day, the 100th day of school, swimming lessons and the family dance at her school.
I think she is no longer contagious as the spots she has left are scabbed over but we will lay low for one more day. She has been invited over to Alyssa and Emerson's today to play and give them more germs but it may be too late for that.
