Discovery Wildlife Park
In the spring we had received a flyer in the mail about things to see in your own backyard. In the flyer was the Discovery Wildlife Park in Innisfail and a coupon for a free child's admission. We cut it out and put it on our summer to do list.
Today was the day we decided to go. We drove one hour north on highway 2 and barely turned off the highway and there it was.
It was very spacious and had huge enclosures for the animals. Most animals were flat out in the shade and did not venture out to greet anyone. We had a map of the park and each animal was listed with it's name included. We went around to see the animals before the bear show started. The "movie star" bears were in an area that the public was not allowed until show time. The four bears we saw have all been in movies, t.v. shows and commercials. During the show no cameras were allowed and cell phones had to be put away. The bears showed off their talents to the cheers of the crowd. After the show you could pay $20 to have your picture taken with a bear. Teagan had thought she wanted to until she saw the bears up close then she thought better of it. We paid $2 in the gift shop for a picture of her favourite bear, Bonkers. He played Winnie in the movie about the famous bear.
We stayed for the next show which was the Jaguars. It was interesting and we were allowed to take pictures and video.
I was not really impressed with the park. It was expensive and too long of a drive to be something that we would do again. They had a lot of gimmicks trying to get you to spend more money as I'm sure it takes a lot of money to take care of all those animals.
